Supporting Leon's Triathlon

Overview

Every year, Leon's Triathlon, known as "America's Race", brings together veterans, active military members, first responders, adaptive athletes, volunteers, and supporters from across the country.

Hosting an event of this scale requires far more than race timing and volunteers. It demands crowd control solutions that can be deployed quickly, remain reliable throughout changing weather conditions, and safely guide athletes, spectators, and volunteers across a large event footprint.

Plasticade partnered alongside fellow American manufacturers Mr. Chain and The Cortina Companies to help create a safe, organized environment that allowed the focus to remain where it belonged . . . on the athletes and the mission.

The Challenge

Preparing a multi-day triathlon means building an entire crowd management control system:

Organizers needed products that could:

  • Clearly separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic
  • Direct participants through multiple event areas
  • Create designated volunteer and spectator spaces
  • Perform reliably through changing weather before race day
  • Install and remove quickly with volunteer crews
  • Support thousands of participants without creating unnecessary maintenance throughout the event

Just as importantly, every product had to blend into the event, not become a distraction from it.

The Solution

Plasticade supplied a combination of portable traffic safety products that helped organizers establish safe, organized pathways throughout the venue.

Solutions included:

  • Plasticade Signicade® sign stands for event messaging and directional guidance
  • Mr. Chain custom colored plastic chain to clearly delineator unmarked areas while maintaining the patriotic tone of the event
  • Cortina delineators to channel pedestrian and vehicle movement
  • Hydrocade™ barricades that could be repositioned as event needs changed
  • Other durable equipment capable of withstanding transportation, setup, and outdoor conditions

Because the products are lightweight while remaining durable, volunteers were able to quickly deploy the event layout without specialized equipment.

Results

The event successfully transformed public streets and parking areas into a well-organized race environment that safely accommodated athletes, volunteers, spectators, and support vehicles.

Plasticade products helped organizers:

  • Maintain clear pedestrian and traffic separation
  • Improve navigation throughout the venue
  • Speed event setup and teardown
  • Provide durable temporary traffic control throughout race operations
  • Support a safe experience for participants and volunteers

Most importantly, the event allowed the focus to remain on the athletes, their accomplishments, and the veterans the race was created to honor. Learn more about Leon and his mission here: Leon's Triathlon.
